Kim’s Colour 5K in memory of partner Jon
Kim Martins and her daughter Jess are raising funds for Big C by taking part in Big C’s Colour 5K this year.
Kim Said: “The challenge our group is taking on is the Norwich Colour 5K on 3rd July 2021 in memory of my dear partner Jon Chapman, aged 55.
“Jon was diagnosed with cancer again after being clear of kidney cancer for 10 years. He was diagnosed in February 2020 just before the Covid pandemic and lockdown in March 2020. Jon was always passionate about giving back something to those that helped him through difficult times during his recovery from cancer. As a couple we attended many charity balls and donated to different charities that were close to Jon’s heart. The Big C was one of the charities that supported Jon and myself the most in the early stages of his journey in 2020. The staff at the Big C hub at Norfolk and Norwich hospital were very kind and supportive. They welcomed us with open arms and signposted us to other agencies for support. We were able to use some of the facilities a few times before the hub had to close due to Covid restrictions.
“Sadly Jon lost his fight to cancer after a long period of shielding during the pandemic and passed away peacefully at @PBHospice on 20th April 2021. I knew I wanted to do something in memory of Jon and that would benefit other people that were going through a similar journey to Jon. The Big C was my obvious choice for all the support they had offered both me and Jon. I chose the colour run as I felt it would brighten our moods at such a sad time. As soon as I decided to run for charity, my daughter Jess, her partner Lawrence and her friend Melissa were on board straight away. We have also had other friends that have agreed to join us and family that will also support us on the day watching the race. We are now in training and hopefully will do Jon proud on the day.”
